Surveillance, Book One: Agents
Genre: action/adventure/suspense/thriller/spy
It's all about espionage. It's a game of deception and trying to figure out who is one which side. This is the world that first book in the Surveillance trilogy introduces us to.
Written in first person, we see things through the eyes of an experience case officer (field operative). Book One is half about getting to know the characters.
The second half is about stopping a plot not revolving around a strike against the U.S. It has an international focus.
Because of the deceptive nature of espionage, the opening chapters are intentionally a bit confusing about who is on which side. But it will make sense only a few chapters into the story.
The team our main character is part of is not filled with nice people. It all might seem a bit harsh. However, and not speaking for experience, I've always seen spies as those who do the hard and dirty work that no one would want to do or have the determination or energy to do. I imagine it as a very cold and raw world to train and work within.
That said, there's another reason why I begin with rough characters and settings. As the story unfolds, we'll be introduced to other characters that have various influences upon our main character. This is a real life element. Every interaction, direct and indirect, we have with another person has some kind of influence, positive or negative. Some people are easily influence, while others are strong influencers. Sometimes when we've been in a certain environment long enough, it begins to alter our thoughts, moods, and behaviors. In other instances, though, a brief meeting with a single flamboyant person can greatly affect us. Ultimately, a person's choices are their own. You can't make someone do something but you can sway them.
The story ending will hopefully not be what you expect. You know authors can't have too much predictability in their books, especially the endings.
So, please dive in and I hope you enjoy it. I'm always excited to share new stories with people. Cheers!
