Parallel, Book II: Beyond Strength & Sorrow
Summary
The war for the South recently ended. Michael has been crowned king of Sirion only a few days. However, Jada pressed northward, following orders to meet the high king at his city’s gates.
This is no ordinary journey. The first trek to see the king by anyone is always one of trials. Blake and Gabriel travel with her in the early on but one must face the darkest stages alone. Inevitably, Jada finds herself standing alone at the door of the real test: the crossing of the Great Sands. Hope will die. The traveler will be broken as she languishes from one black trial into another.
Yet, on the other side of this unimaginable darkness, and as the second half of the tale unfolds, deep waters are reached. In the throes of passing through hell, He can still work. In passing through death, He can rebuild the tattered soul. In sending back one who has entered eternity, He returns them as something wholly new and filled with power and knowledge that cannot be fathomed.
Such is the way of things when a realm approaches its end. Aurora has not recovered from the blackness of Cassius’s evil. In the Dead Land, the dark king and the demon prince put forth their final efforts to exact their revenge even as the realm begins to crumble.
As the high king prepares for the inevitable, and strange signs and wonders appear throughout the realm, he wonders if this truly is the end. Will a new era where Evil reigns be ushered in or will the destruction of Aurora’s very foundations bring the arrival of eternity?
Who can know for certain as light and dark face one another and the war drums sound the prelude to the battle that will put an end to this never-ending war?
Author's Note
This book as a whole is nearest and dearest to my heart. While I put little pieces of myself into all of my books (as many writers do), the second book of Parallel was a major way for me to process and begin to heal from recent trauma. When I first began writing stories many years ago, the primary purpose was to do just that: consider what was happening, accept it, and move on. In later years, writing became a deep and wild passion of my spirit. For this story, it returned to being a way to process life events.
The second half of the book dives into very deep waters and grew into something that I had no idea it was going to turn into. As I completed each later chapter, I didn't know what the next chapter would be until the current one was finished. It turned out to be a fantastic and mind-blowing adventure.
As Parallel was meant to be a trilogy, one final book is required. I have yet to outline it, though I've envisioned several key scenes for it. Currently, "Dimensions" and "Omicron" are more pressing.
